Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi sacked

In less than 24 hours, Tottenham and Olympique Marseille have announced the dismissal of their managers due to poor results.

Late on Wednesday, Olympique Marseille announced the dismissal of Roberto de Zerbi as coach of Olympique Marseille. The Mediterranean club made the decision after a negative run of form that the Italian coach had been unable to reverse.

Marseille had a positive start to the season, but in recent weeks the team has fallen apart under the Italian coach. So much so that they were eliminated from the Champions League when they had everything in their favour to reach the play-offs. The final straw was the painful defeat suffered at the Parc des Princes against PSG in the French football classic. Now the goal is to finish Ligue 1 in the top three.

Ligue 1 standings

  • 1. PSG 51 points
  • 2. Lens 49 points
  • 3. Olympique Lyon 42 points
  • 4. Olympique Marseille 39 points
  • 5. Lille 33 points
  • 6. Stade Rennais 31 points
  • 7. Strasbourg 30 points
  • 8. Toulouse 30 points

Relegation is a threat for Tottenham

Thursday saw the departure of Thomas Frank from Tottenham. The Danish coach arrived at the North London club after some great seasons in charge of Brentford. His start to the season was promising, and the team's performance in the Champions League has been spectacular. Not for nothing did they finish the group stage in a creditable fourth place.

But in the Premier League, the picture is completely different. The end of 2025 and the start of 2026 have been very negative. Tuesday's defeat to Newcastle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was the trigger for Thomas Frank's dismissal. The situation is critical, with the relegation places five points away and the team in freefall. The owners have been forced to make a change on the bench to try to turn the situation around.

Premier League table

  • 16. Tottenham 29 points
  • 17. Nottingham Forest 27 points
  • 18. West Ham 24 points
  • 19. Burnley 18 points
  • 20. Wolves 9 points
